Side-by-side for comparison. This sketch (and later drawing) was inspired entirely by Bubblegum Bitch by Marina & the Diamonds, who I’ve taken quite a fondness to. Overall, this is a pretty miraculous work for me, especially since I did it all with a mouse. It took a really long time though- hence the absent background- but I feel the picture itself is pretty fantastic. The shading went great, and the curve tool in Sai really allowed for percise curves which made to legs and arms not look so stick-like unlike the sketch. The only things I wasn’t fond of was the noodle hands (I’m already sucky at them, so not having a tablet didn’t allow for much improvement) and the ‘flirty’ expression that came out more concerned than anything. To be fair, I don’t really flirt/ get flirted with, so l’m lacking the personal experience. The lines muddled up on me and left one shoe pink and the other black, but whatever. Blame perspective, I suppose.
Hey guys! Sorry for not being able to post anything, but I’ll be able to come Christmas! So, for now, have some doodles. I’ll probably actually try to digitize and color these eventually, some I’m getting a little drawing-withdrawn, heh.
I didn’t want to put a huge caption on the original pic so here’s a progress gif.
Not as cool with MS then others, but ahh well
The reason I wanted to draw Aradia is because I’ve always loved how- okay I just love her in general. Every time while she was alive she really had an up beat happy attitude (for the most part despite Vriska) which seemed so crazy. She can face death- literally- and take it so instride and see the beauty of it all. And when she’s dead, and though that happy upbeat attitude was gone, she still had a sense of purpose and place in the world that kept her going. Sure she wasn’t happy, but she still didn’t stop in despair. It would have been so easy too. With ghosts whispering in your ears, no happiness or love, knowing her planet and friends were going to die any second, as well as knowing she herself would die thousand fold is really hard to deal with. But’s she’s 0kay with it. Solemn acceptance.
So that was what I was going with this picture. Her poise and diligence gives her regal feel. Which i find crazy but inspiring. Her character is strong and while she can be childish she has a sense of maturity and responsibility above all else- despite being the lowest class. In fact, while Feferi is caring she lacks that- while she holds some, with dealing with her lusus and cuttlefish, she doesn’t treat other with respect and comes off more like a teasing child than caring mother when talking to everyone else.
Also her hair is so fun to draw
Now, moving on to the piece itself. I tried to give it a gothic feel, with her horns being the sharp, segmented look that’s pretty common in cosplayers and really pretty. I also had tons of fun with gradients- MS Paint is great for those looking for a subtle gradient since coloring it is pretty easy, and manipulating saturation as well(like I did with her dress, to give it a death type feel, losing color and life) with the bucket tool. Other programs have it too, but the pixel like lines accent it too well to use it otherwise.
The base coloration without any shading also gives it a flat look I like, while still having gradients influence it.
ALSO SHE HAS FLIPPER HANDS IM SO SORRY
drag to see the truth behind the rustblood
drawn in MS Paint with mouse fiddled slightly in Sai
First mouse drawn human, ever!!! Whoo!!!
But, uh… Besides that, I’m not that fond of this. I wanted a possible new icon, with more curly hair action, but…
First completely mouse drawn picture for…a really long time. Not too bad, i suppose.
I’m leaving for debate camp from 14-20, so not much updates from anything. Except my main blog. Go smartphones.
Wondering what I am off doing? Why drawing for Stacey’s and my ask blog, of course!
